TACS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE CONTEST

FACT SHEET

Any student from a class A, AA, or AAA school in grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 may be a contestant.
Competing schools must be an Institutional Member of the Texas Association of Community Schools.
- Each team is made up of three students:
Level I (90-100 average)
Level II (80-89 average)
Level III (70-79 average)
These averages are in English, math, science and social studies from grade 9 through 12. (Twelfth grade competitors will use their grades the end of their 11th grade to determine their ranking. Ninth grade competitors will their 1st semester grades to determine their ranking.
- Each participating district may enter up to three (3 teams).

Questions will be derived from the TEKS of high school course in science, English, math and social studies and restricted to the Small Schools Academic Competition Study Guide for the current year.

Entry fee is $500.00 per team. Each district can enter up to three teams.

All entry fee money, minus the actual cost of holding the contest, will be awarded in cash scholarships to winning students.

The top five scoring teams in the area completions will receive scholarships and will qualify for the state competition. (An additional $500 entry fee is required for each advancing team to the State Competition).

The TACS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE has awarded $240,000.00 in cash Scholarship's over the last four years.

Division of scholarship money:
1st place team - 30% 2nd place team - 25%
3rd place team - 20% 4th place team - 15%
5th place team - 10%

The money will be sent to the superintendent that represents the winners. The money will be held in escrow by the school district until the time that the student has enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school. If within one year of high school graduation, the student decides not to pursue a post-secondary education, the money will be returned to the Small Schools Academic Competition account. This money will be placed in the purse for the next year's competition.
